Pull ’em Up or Else

Young ladies, your undies are pretty, but we don’t want to see them. Some things are meant to be covered, like your panties.

First, it was young men wearing pants so low that we could see their boxers and briefs. They copied rappers who got the idea from prisoners who wear beltless pants and turned it into a fashion statement. To keep up with the boys, young ladies began wearing droopy pants, too.

Well, the City Commission in Opa-locka, Fla., has had enough of exposed backsides from both sexes. Six years after passing an ordinance banning saggy pants in public places that was aimed at males, commissioners have tentatively approved an ordinance authorizing police to ticket females for low-riding pants.

The penalty: $500 or 25 hours of community service.

Commissioner Dorothy Johnson introduced the ordinance after noticing men leering and making comments about young ladies showing their underwear. She hopes the proposed revision will stir debate among young women about their image. The revised ordinance will be up for final approval on Nov. 13.

If ever there was an unflattering style for a young lady, it’s wearing pants hanging low on the butt. Some pants are so low that the wearer has to walk wide-legged to keep them up  It’s not a pretty sight.

Here’s the bigger question: Why would you want to show thongs and lacy panties to strangers? You’re inviting lewd comments from boys who might be tempted to reach out and touch what you’re baring.

You send the wrong message by making public what should be considered private – the things you wear under your clothes. If you like lacy things, consider a lacy top but wear a cami underneath if it’s see-through. You don’t want to show everything, a peek will do.

If you respect your body, boys will, too.
