Reading is Fundamental This Summer

Summer is finally here. Sit back, relax and read. Although many of you have been assigned a summer reading list for school, now is the time to dip into whatever genre you’re in the mood for – romance, murder mystery or fantasy. It doesn’t matter, just read! Here is a list of books to check out this summer:

1.  Fallen by Lauren Kate – A thriller and love story about a girl who sets her sights on a mysterious and aloof boy at a boarding school for kids who have done bad things.

2. Five Summers by Una LaMarche – Four childhood friends who meet for a summer camp reunion reveal secrets that threaten to destroy their friendship.

3. Game by Barry Lyga – Seventeen-year-old Jazz has been asked to help find a serial killer. The sequel to I Hunt Killers.

4. how to save a life by Sara Zarr – The lives of a pregnant teen and an upper middle-class girl intersect when the girl’s mom to decides to adopt the baby.

5. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick – A girl is addicted to watching the chaotic life of the family next door and her first love ends up being the boy from that house.

6. The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen – A teenage girl is torn between her high school boyfriend and a filmmaking intern she meets during the summer before college.

7. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman – A dragon-filled thriller about a gifted musician drawn into an investigation of a royal family member’s murder.

8. The Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles Series #2) – Carter and Sadie encounter obstacles during their worldwide search for the Book of Ra.

Also, check out The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is a quick read. The novel, set in 1922, chronicles the excesses of the Jazz Age. See how closely the movie resembles the original novel. If you’re a fan, The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins is a good read. Remember, you can always borrow books free from the public library
