Enjoy Alternative Super Bowl Sunday

If you’re not into football, Super Bowl Sunday is the perfect day to indulge in your favorite pastimes.

I discovered this several years ago when I backed out of a Super Bowl party because I knew that I would get bored long before the game ended. I’m good until I’m stuffed with chicken wings, nachos and margaritas. Then, it’s time for me to get out and move around.

If you’re a shopper, you can venture to the mall on Super Bowl Sunday and find a good parking space along with smaller crowds. Normally, I don’t recommend going near a mall on the weekend, but this is a special day. Professional shoppers rejoice!

You can also binge watch new TV series and chick flicks aired On Demand or Netflix. Check out indie and foreign films. They’ll take you far, far away from the hoopla surrounding the big game.

Haven’t seen “The Revenant” or “13 Hours” yet? You can catch both movies at the same theater and kill five hours. Who’s going to complain about you being gone all evening?

Grocery shopping is also easier on Super Bowl Sunday because football fans shop early for their spread. Of course, there might not be too many jars of salsa and dip on the shelves, but you only need one.

After you munch on that last chip, fix a PB&J sandwich, grab a banana and a glass of milk and play computer games. No one expects you to cook on Super Bowl Sunday. It’s a snack food/junk food holiday. Enjoy it like everyone else and worry about the calories on Monday.

I realize some people like to be productive. For that handful of women, tackle the junky garage or do that chore you’ve been putting off. With your husband, boyfriend or partner out of the way, you can clean without distraction and get rid of stuff they’ve been promising to discard for months. I promise, they won’t miss it.

Top off the day by curling up in bed with a good book and a glass of wine. Better yet, set the whole bottle next to you. Drink up and dance during the halftime show, and tune in at the end of the game to toast the winner of Super Bowl 50.

That’s my kind of Super Bowl Sunday!
