13 Wishes for 2013

New Year By Cheryl Mattox Berry

As you prepare to ring in the New Year, spend a little time assessing what you accomplished in 2012 and where you fell short. The answers are a starting point for setting goals in 2013. Once again, I’m not asking you to make New Year’s resolutions because everyone knows those commitments are quickly broken and forgotten.

Last year, I suggested affirmations instead of hard-to-keep promises to change habits. I hope you achieved all you envisioned in 2012. If the affirmations worked, keep reciting them.

Perhaps you’ve already set goals for the school year. Now is a good time to revisit that list. Does it need tweaking or a major do-over? The revised list should include what you want to accomplish at school, home, church/synagogue and in sports if you’re an athlete. Make sure the goals are attainable and describe how you plan to achieve each one. Set benchmarks and check often to see if you’re on track.

The New Year represents a new beginning, and we wish for better things to come. Here are my 13 wishes for you in 2013:
