Leave Camille Cosby Alone

Hasn’t Camille Cosby suffered enough humiliation over her husband’s alleged sex crimes? Now, she’s scheduled to be deposed on Feb. 22. I’m not looking forward to that day.

I had hoped that Camille would be able to maintain her dignity and avoid testifying in this case. No such luck because she is her husband’s business manager.

Last December, Bill Cosby was charged with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman inside his home in Philadelphia in 2004. More than 50 women have accused him of committing similar acts over the years, but this is the only criminal case against him.

Seven of those women say Bill Cosby defamed their characters in his response to their accusations. They are suing him and want Camille to answer questions about her husband’s infidelity.

I can’t imagine what she would say to help their case. She reportedly knew about his affairs and told him to be discreet. However, no one has named her as an eyewitness to his shenanigans, and I haven’t read anywhere that she tried to cover up his dirty secrets.

Camille was supportive when the first wave of allegations came out, but she has been noticeably quiet lately, telling family friends that she is humiliated and Bill deserves the hell he’s going through but not jail time, according to The Post.

What about her hell? Here’s a woman who has witnessed the rise and fall of America’s No. 1 dad. The Cosby name graced buildings on several college campuses. The couple was revered for philanthropy and promoting education. They were icons.

Now, no institution wants to be affiliated with Bill Cosby. He’s the butt of jokes. Women question why smart, beautiful Camille is standing by him.

We’ve seen the stand-by-your-man routine play out many times in the media. The long-suffering wife often checks out quietly when the scandal has died down.

Who knows, Camille might do the same thing. What would you do if a man you’ve been married to for more than half a century betrayed you like this?

I suspect the charges have torn the family apart much like what the Madoff family experienced when Bernie Madoff confessed to his long-running Ponzi scheme, one of the largest fraud cases in U.S. history.

I’m anxious for Bill’s trial to start and finish so that Camille can finally get some peace – with or without Bill.
